Trombone, Tuba, Vocals, DJ/Producer and Artist, Courtney Brown AKA Neeyz, is a London-based musician with a low brassy presence. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Music, where he gained a scholarship to study Bass Trombone.

While studying at the academy, Courtney started collaborating as a producer on projects both in and outside college. It was in the RAM’s university studio The Manson Room, that production duo NBOC (co-founder Jay Phelps) was first established. As well as working on defining a direction for his production, Courtney also started to develop his sound as a bass/ tenor trombone player. By the time he graduated he had worked with Jools Holland, Pixie Lott, Robin Thicke, Jesse J, James Arthur, Rudimental, Troyka, James Taylor Quartet, Liv Warfield and the NPG horns, Kano, Fraser T Smith, Brass Tracks, Emeli Sande, Light Of The World, Outlook Orchestra, and played in the orchestras of West End musicals The Lion King, Wicked and Five Guys Named Moe.

Trumpeter and Artist, Jay Phelps is a Vancouver-born Canadian with an instantly recognisable warm and projecting tone. He was tutored by the city’s top Jazz and Classical trumpeters and distinguished himself early on as the youngest band-leader in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival’s history.

In 1999 aged 17, Jay moved to London, determined to immerse himself in the jazz scene. Jay has performed and recorded with a veritable who’s who of international Jazz and famed artists such as; Courtney Pine, Andrew Hill, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Brown, John Hendricks, Nasheet Waits, George Benson, Jamie Cullum, Sir John Dankworth, Jean Toussaint, Dennis Rollins, Guy Barker, Amy Winehouse, Charlotte Church, Hugh Masakela, Jazz Jamaica, Soweto Kinch, Skatroniks, Ska Cubano, Chineke Orchestra. Currently, Phelps is releasing his second solo album, ‘Free As The Birds’ on Ropeadope Records. Out March 2018.

Neeyz and Jay, met in 2014 and not only saw each other on the same recording sessions from time to time, but began to make music together after noticing a shared passion in production and electronic music. The group took some time to get started with their varied schedules in other genres, especially Courtney finishing his studies at the Royal Academy of music, but they worked through it and the dedication grew to where it is now. They have recently completed their debut album with NBOC (NewBorn OutCry). This London based duo are making cutting edge alternative Hip-Hop and combining many of the elements found in the mainstream version of the genre, but with an understanding of Jazz and other sounds from around the world. They combine their talents of production, brass instruments, and singing, and have grown as a band that has created a very unique sound. Imagine if Outkast, The Neptunes, Anderson Paak and Parliament Funkadelic all had a baby.
